Children And Young People

To help our young patients when they arrive at our Children's Unit we want to make them feel as relaxed as possible ahead of their treatment. This not only helps the children but the family and staff as well.

We decorate our Children's Wards and Departments with bright, colourful walls and supply toys for them to play with. It's thanks to donations and our fabulous fundraisers, that we have been able to transform the cold clinical wards provided as standard by the NHS into welcoming environments for the 120,000 young patients we see every year.

Refurbishing makes a huge difference

The refurbishments not only relieve stress for the family but also help staff engage with the children to distract them while they receive their treatment.

For parents, the wall decoration is an immediate indicator that they are entering a children’s area, and for our young patients it makes it less scary for them and more inviting with the different themed murals on the walls from jungle animals and pirates to hot air balloons and flowers.

Exciting and child-friendly

As well as brightening up the wards inside we also create fantastic playgrounds, providing a fun and safe space for our young patients to play while they receive their treatment, enabling them to still be children despite feeling poorly.

We are fundraising to help the Outpatients and Physiotherapy Departments at Heartlands Hospital and Good Hope Hospital to make those areas more exciting and child-friendly for the tens of thousands of children who come for outpatient treatment, many times a year. We’ll also create bespoke play areas that will transform the way staff assess their young patients’ progress, making it a more enjoyable experience for both. To Donate, please click the button above.
