Pets In Hospital
For many patients who have to spend a number of days in hospital, the thing they miss the most is their home comforts. One of those can be their pets. Our Pets in Hospital programme helps reduce anxiety and bring joy to our patients and their families as well as staff.
We have specially assessed dogs visiting patients and staff at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals, which is completely funded by the hospital charity. The dogs and their wonderful owners, who volunteer their time, help to reduce anxiety and enhance patient communication and interaction.
How our dogs make a difference
Mandy Green, Head of Patient Experience at UHB Trust, said: "Pets in Hospital is a fantastic programme that has been making a big difference to patients at the hospitals."
"Research has shown that animals can have a positive impact on improving patient wellbeing by reducing anxiety, enhancing patient interaction and promoting a calm, positive environment for staff and patients.”
