Giving in memory

Donating in memory of a loved one will leave behind a lasting legacy that will help to change our patients’ lives long into the future.

However you choose to give in memory, whether that’s setting up a regular donation, or creating an online Tribute page, your money will go to the hospital, department, or ward of your choice.

Most people expect to be very upset or distressed when someone close to them has died. What takes many people by surprise is how strong the emotions can be, how they can change very quickly, and how long they last. People around you may seem to think you should be ‘back to normal’ after a few weeks or months. You might appear to be your usual self to other people, but you know that on the inside, you’re not even sure what normal is any more.

Tribute page

Many people like to celebrate a loved one’s life by supporting a cause close to their heart. Your donations will help us pay for life-saving equipment and ground-breaking research.

You can make the In Memory Donation to a specific fund or ward, or even specify it to be spent on a certain piece of equipment.

We've partnered with MuchLoved to give you the opportunity to remember your loved one through a personalised tribute page.

By setting up a tribute page you can create an online space dedicated to their memory, where friends and family can post their memories and thoughts, and where there is also the facility to raise money in their memory should you so wish.

Support when you need it most

Everyone grieves in a way that is unique to them and their relationship with the person who has died.

Well-intentioned people may say to you, ‘Time is a great healer.’ Sometimes, however, it can seem that life is more difficult as the weeks and months go by. We know that no one can understand exactly what your loss feels like to you. But we do understand that it’s sometimes easier to talk to someone outside of your friends and family about grief and the impact of bereavement on your life and this is why we offer the GriefChat service.

Talking through your grief

GriefChat was created by bereavement experts and by clicking on the GriefChat box on the bottom right-hand side of this page, you can chat directly to a specially trained bereavement counsellor.

GriefChat counsellors are experienced in supporting bereaved people and will listen to your story, explore how your grief is affecting you and help you to find any additional support you might need. GriefChat is a completely free service and is available Monday-Friday, 9am - 9pm (except Bank Holidays) or by email out of these hours.

GriefChat provides emotional support for bereaved people, access to trained bereavement counsellors and referral to other specialist bereavement services.

Funeral donations

Organising a funeral can often be a stressful process at what is always a difficult time; that's why we have teamed up with MuchLoved to try to make it that little bit easier for you.

We have partnered with MuchLoved to help you to create a funeral notice online that you can share the details of your loved one's funeral with family and friends, as well as posting it on social media, if you so choose.

The funeral notice can include details such as location, date and time, dress code, and any other specific requirements. A funeral notice also offers those who may not be able to attend the ability to send messages of condolence.

To commemorate your loved one you might like to make a one-off donation, take donations using envelopes, or set up a funeral notice through our partnership with MuchLoved.

It never ceases to amaze me how kind people are to want to support the hospital Charity at such a difficult time.
