Chef Matt Davies has teamed up with Simpsons restaurant, Birmingham for a charity dinner party in aid of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity.
Eight years ago, Matt had an accident at work resulting in severe burns and lost the use of his arm. He was treated by Burns and Plastics Surgeon, Colonel Mark Foster at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Matt has gone through over 70 operations over the years and unfortunately, after severe infection had to have his arm amputated. He is incredibly grateful for the ongoing care he has received and wanted to say thank you and give something back, so began organising charity fine-dining events and has been fundraising for the hospital charity ever since. So far Matt has raised over £100k for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity and Hospitality Action.
Simpsons restaurant is a long-standing supporter of Matt and wanted to help raise money for the hospital charity, so on 11th September Simpsons is hosting a fine-dining experience not to be missed!
Back in the 1980s, The Plough and Harrow was the place to eat in Birmingham and that’s where the chefs at Simpsons, Andreas Antona and Luke Tipping first met. A few years after they started, a young chef called Matt Davies joined them and he became Andreas’ first apprentice.
Matt has had an illustrious career as a top chef in the Midlands and Staffordshire, including holding the position of Chair of the British Culinary Federation. For the first time in nearly 40 years Matt, Andreas and Luke, the original team from The Plough and Harrow are coming back together for one night only. Other friends and former colleagues of Matt are also joining the event to celebrate Matt’s strength and motivation and fundraise for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, a cause close to Matt’s heart.
