Congratulations to our magnificent marathon runners!
Just yesterday (Sunday 24 April), seven super marathon runners donned those distinctive purple, green and blue running tops and took to the streets of the capital city for the Virgin London Marathon 2016 in aid of QEHB Charity. Every single one of them completed the race and raised a total of more than £11,000 of vital funds for patients at the QE in the process!
Mike Hammond, Chief Executive of QEHB Charity, said: “We are so incredibly proud of this year’s London marathon runners, and so grateful for the months of hard work and perseverance that go into training for this type of fundraising. Your donations will help to fund new equipment, research and facilities to benefit patients receiving treatment at the hospital.
“On behalf of everyone at QEHB Charity, I want to say thank you to Holly, Marcus, Sarah, Nicki, Mariann, Hannah Tomes, and Hannah Stuart – you are all superstars!”
Holly Dagger ran to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust Young Persons Unit (YPU), where teenagers and young adults with cancer can stay whilst receiving treatment at the QE. Find out more here.
Marcus George ran to raise money for the Critical Care Unit at the QE to thank staff for caring for his father during an extended hospital stay two years ago.
Sarah Vince, a nurse on the hospital’s Clinical Decisions Unit, ran to raise money to benefit her patients on the unit and their families.
Nicki Hudson, who was our quickest runner with an amazing time of three hours and 31 minutes, raised money for the Critical Care Unit at the QE to thank staff for their treatment of her father.
Mariann Bourne ran to raise money for Fisher House, our ‘home away from home’ for military patients and their families. Find out more about Fisher House here.
Hannah Tomes took part to raise valuable funds for QEHB Charity in order to thank staff at the QE for taking care of her grandmother when she was treated for oesophageal cancer in 2012.
Hannah Stuart ran to raise money for YPU, to enable other patients to benefit from the great staff and facilities on the ward, after her brother was treated there back in 2009. Find out more here.
