Festive fun for paediatric diabetes!

The Paediatric Diabetes department at Good Hope Hospital holds a Christmas party for the patients every year and this year was no different!

The children who visit the department for their check-ups and appointments might need to visit hospital over the Christmas period.

Being in hospital over the Christmas period can be scary for some children, and as diabetes patients have to have regular check-ups, they have to get used to being in the hospital environment. That’s why Paitra Sparkes runs the Christmas party for the patients every year.

Paitra, Lead Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse at Good Hope Hospital, said: “We love holding a Christmas party every year, it gives the children something to look forward to and reminds them that the hospital isn’t a scary place.

“We have new and old patients join us each year and we play some games and Santa comes and gives out the presents that Good Hope Hospital Charity has donated. The children love to come in, take part in the game and get a present off Santa.”

Laura Power, Fundraising Manager for Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “We at the Charity are so happy that all of the children at the Paediatrics Diabetes department Christmas party enjoyed their presents from the Charity.

“The Charity’s Children’s appeal is aiming to make hospital visits less daunting and stressful for children, so inviting them to Christmas parties like this can really help them see that the hospital isn’t a scary place.”
