Midwife shaves her head for new Midwifery Led Unit
Jackie Scott, an Infant Feeding Co-ordinator at Good Hope Hospital, has braved the shave for the Midwifery Led Unit appeal for Good Hope Hospital Charity and Macmillan!
Jackie has been a midwife for 30 years this year and said: “A Midwifery Led Unit is a dream that many of us have had and at last we may get our wish!
“The majority of women, if they had a choice, would choose midwifery led care.”
Jackie chose to brave the shave in memory of her sister-in-law Lesley and her dad who have both passed away from cancer. She is also doing it for her mum who is surviving cancer, and her oldest friend who is going through treatment now.
As well as raising money for two charities that are close to her heart, the hair that Jackie cut off is being donated to The Little Princess Trust to be made into wigs for children.
Ove 70 people came to the Fothergill Block at Good Hope Hospital to watch her have her head shaved, staff, friends and family came to support Jackie in her incredible fundraising challenge.
Laura Power, Fundraising Manager at Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “Jackie is incredible for choosing to shave all of her hair off for the Midwifery Led Unit appeal at the hospital. The unit is extremely sought after amongst the staff and former patients who have had their babies at Good Hope Hospital.
“The Midwifery Led Unit will give women will fewer complications in their pregnancy the option to have their baby in a relaxing, homely environment, but still be close to medical equipment and staff if they need it.”
