Course overview: One day hands on training for diagnostic and therapeutic paracentesis, with the use of ultrasound. Course aimed specifically at CNS / ANP / ACP from Hepatology, Gastroenterology or Oncology; who are seeking to learn technique for paracentesis and setup a nurse-led service.
There will be a series of clinical lectures followed by hands-on practice with mannequins covering topics of:
- Gaining valid consent
- Administration of local anaesthetic
- Performing an ascitic tap
- Performing paracentesis
- Sending appropriate ascitic fluid specimens
- Post-procedural care
- Management of paracentesis-related complications
