A walk in the park for fundraising team

A 30-strong team of staff members from Ward 28 at Heartlands Hospital and their friends and family have raised over £800 for Heartlands Hospital Charity following a sponsored walk.

The team walked around Kingsbury Water Park to raise the funds, which will go towards providing ‘added extras’ for patients on the ward. Ward 28 is the Infectious Diseases ward at Heartlands Hospital, treating patients with a variety of illnesses.

Leanne Poole is the ward manager and said: “All of the staff on the ward wanted to fundraise to benefit both patients and staff. We share out ideas about what we could do to raise money and decided to do a sponsored walk.”

Despite some wet weather, the team had fun and raised £828.50 thanks to the generosity of their family and friends, and other colleagues who weren’t able to take part in the walk but wanted to contribute.

Leanne said: “We started the walk at 12pm and it took us about two hours to complete. We picked the worst day as it poured down but everyone happily carried on!”

The money that the team raised was used to purchase new garden furniture for the ward’s garden, offering patients a comfortable and homely space to sit and relax in whilst they are receiving their treatment.

Sabrina Hussaine, Fundraising Officer at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “Huge thanks goes to the team from Ward 28 and their family and friends for helping to raise such a fantastic amount of money from the sponsored walk.

“This is a fantastic example of how staff members can help to make a huge difference to their patients by raising money which can then be spent on the items that will benefit the patients most. The new garden furniture looks fantastic and is already proving popular with the patients on Ward 28.”
