Alan Miller Charitable Trust donates to Fisher House!
The Alan Miller Charitable Trust has so far donated an incredible £190,000 to the hospital charity which has gone towards brand new incubators at Heartlands Hospital, the children’s areas at Heartlands, and now to Fisher House at QEHB.
Fisher House is the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s home away from home for military patients and their families. Opening in 2013, the house has been a home to over 5,000 patients and their families whilst they are receiving treatment at the hospital.
Gerry and Pauline Smith, who are the executors of the Trust which was set up when their good friend Alan Miller passed away, visited Fisher House to see what a difference it makes. Alan left a large amount of money to charity in his will so Gerry and Pauline have been visiting areas to see what a difference this money could make. They decided to sponsor two rooms in the house and donated an incredible £20,000 to the hospital charity!
On average, Fisher House UK costs £25 for a family to stay for one night, so this amazing donation has provided 730 nights of accommodation for military patients and their families.
Gerry and Pauline, originally from Dorset, decided to name the rooms they sponsored Lulworth and Brownsea as they were places that were both very close to Alan.

Sian Averill, Fundraising Manager at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “Gerry and Pauline have already donated such a huge amount of money to the hospital charity through the Alan Miller Charitable Trust, so for them to donate even more money is just incredible.
“The house is an amazing facility for our military patients and their families so thank you so much to Gerry and Pauline for donating £20,000 which provides over 700 nights’ accommodation.”
