Anatomy Lab LIVE fundraise for the hospital charity

Anatomy Lab LIVE have partnered up with the hospital charity to raise funds for the Children’s Appeal across Solihull Hospital, Heartlands Hospital and Good Hope Hospital.

The hospital charity has launched its £950,000 appeal to transform the children's play areas across Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital so that visiting children feel as comfortable as possible, minimising stress for their parents and the staff who treat them. Every year, each of the three hospitals treat thousands of children from across Birmingham and the West Midlands. The hospital charity is fundraising to provide equipment, furniture, games and toys to make hospital visits easier for children and young people. Anatomy Lab LIVE has pledged to donate £1 from each ticket sale at the Birmingham and Coventry events and we will be holding a raffle for two tickets to a show of the winner’s choice.

Anatomy Lab LIVE 2019 is a touring human body-based anatomy event. The event will initially begin in a glamorous venue where a two-course meal will be served before the drapes go back and the full functioning operation theatre is revealed. The dining table will then be transformed into an operating table where participants will be instructed by nationally acclaimed human anatomist and former secondary school teacher from Coleshill, Samuel Piri and his team of clinical pathophysiologists as they practice techniques on ‘real’ specimens. All samples used in the performance are collected from pigs, they are then placed in the ‘specimen’ in order to recreate the closest and most ethical experience of dissecting a real human cadaver.

Sam was seen recently on Dragons Den and has received funding from two dragons (Deborah Meaden and Peter Jones) who called it ‘incredibly educational’; Sam has also had backing from the BBC.

Sam said: “We are now operating in schools hospitals, colleges and universities throughout the UK. The concept allows us to deliver anatomy and physiology training to nurses and like disciplines”

Sian Averill, Fundraising Manager at Heartlands Hospital Charity said: “The Charity is extremely grateful to Sam for choosing to support the Children’s Appeal for the Hospital Charity.

“The funds raised will help to provide exceptional facilities for our young patients during their time at the Solihull, Good Hope and Heartlands sites. The money will ensure that children are immersed in a visually stimulating environment full of toys to play with which will help to ease their nerves, particularly if they are frequent visitors to the hospital”
