“Benidorm or Bust” for Solihull Hospital Charity!
Pat Dunne, Guy Dodd, Nick Tatlow and Andrew Tatlow are a group of four midlands friends who will be travelling from the UK all the way to Benidorm by car between 15 May 2019 and 18 May 2019 to raise money for the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit at Solihull Hospital.
This event aptly named “Benidorm or Bust” will see the four men travel a distance of over 1,400 miles, that’s approximately 21 hours 38 minutes barring any mechanical difficulties and rest stops along the way. The event is split into four fun packed days, starting down in Dover to Orléans, Orléans to Toulouse, Toulouse to Tarragona and finally Tarragona to Benidorm!
So, why have they decided to take on such a huge mission to fundraise for Solihull Hospital Charity you may ask? Sadly, Pat’s Father, Martin Dunne aged 75 is currently receiving pancreatic cancer treatment at Solihull Hospital’s Haematology and Oncology Day Unit. Martin’s family are extremely grateful for the wonderful care that Martin receives, and would like a special thank you to go to Ms Joyce Thompson, Consultant Medical Oncologist and her team.
Thanks to the incredible support of the Charity's kind fundraisers, the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit opened at Solihull Hospital following a successful £150,000 fundraising appeal. The incredible unit has been designed specifically with a patient’s needs in mind and offers a more peaceful and comfortable environment for patients to receive chemotherapy. The unit has its own entrance and garden area, offering patients privacy and peace whilst they receive their treatment.
After learning about Solihull Hospital Charity and how it has played a huge part in funding for the centre where Martin is being treated, Pat wanted to do something epic to thank the wonderful team for all they have done for his father. So with the help of local business and individuals who have made generous donations, (Steve Allen, DRS Commercial Insurance, Acorn Printing and Topcat Design) Pat and his friends are set to fundraise in style this May!
