Birmingham Hospital Radio crowned Station of the Year

BHBN, Birmingham hospitals' radio station, has been crowned Station of the Year at this year's prestigious national Hospital Broadcasting Association Awards.

At the ceremony, held in Stoke on Saturday night, the station was handed the Gold Award with the judges describing BHBN as 'a worthy winner' and praising it for its involvement with the hospital community.

BHBN is entirely run by volunteers and broadcasts twenty four hours a day. The hospital charity is proud to support the incredible work that it does in keeping patients entertained across QEHB, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital.

The trophy was one of three won by BHBN on the night, with Philippa Clarkin picking up Best Female Presenter for her magazine show 'Words and Music Extra' which is broadcast on Sundays at noon. The judges praised Philippa for her warm presenting style. Philippa also won the bronze award for Best Speech Package.

BHBN's Vice Chairman, David Horton, said: “Being crowned Station of the Year is a massive pat on the back for all our hard working volunteers. Our entry was a fantastic showcase of all our talented presenters who give up their time to entertain our patients and staff. We worked hard across the year getting out and about in to the hospital community including our coverage of the British Transplant Games and the NHS’ 70th birthday celebrations.”

Best Female Hospital Radio Presenter, Philippa Clarkin, said: “I am absolutely delighted to be crowned Best Female Presenter and I love being a part of BHBN. It’s a privilege to cover the inspiring stories and fantastic work that goes on across the hospitals in Birmingham.”

Patients can listen to BHBN on their bedside headsets by selecting radio channel 9 at QEHB, or channel 5 at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihul hospitals. BHBN is also available online at bhbn.net or you can listen by downloading the TuneIn radio app.
