Black Sabbath star Tony Iommi launches auction
Legendary Black Sabbath star Tony Iommi has launched a special auction to raise money in support of our NHS Superheroes as they work on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19.
The items are all personal to Tony, and include a signed Epiphone SG guitar which he uses in his home studio as he writes new music. Tony said: “It’s a guitar that I use in the studio and it’s a lefty because I’m left-handed. I’ll sign it, too. But I also have a spare right-handed guitar I keep in handy for when friends drop in and want to jam.
“If Brian May calls round, I keep it handy so we can play together. I’ll put that one up if it’s more to the winning bidder’s taste.”
Tony Iommi is the patron of Ward 19, the specialist cancer unit at Heartlands Hospital. Tony said: “I was hoping to do an ‘In Conversation’ live show to boost the Ward 19 Charity fund. But obviously we’ve had to think again. I was spending self-isolation clearing the studio, and hit on the idea of an auction.”
Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising at University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support that Tony is showing to our NHS at this difficult time. The auction items are amazing and I’d encourage any Black Sabbath fan to place a bid! The money raised will help us to support our NHS Superheroes who are working tirelessly to provide care to our patients.”
