Blakemore Food Services runs for Heartlands Critical Care Unit
Blakemore Food Services chose Heartlands Hospital Charity to be their Charity partner of the year and took part in various events throughout the year to raise money for the Critical Care Unit at the hospital.
At Blakemore, they vote for a charity to raise money for each year that always means something to one of the staff members there. Last year, Nicky Hill, a Contract Manager at Blakemore Food Service, put forward Heartlands Hospital Charity after her husband, Chris, received life-saving treatment there.
Talking about her husband, Nicky said: “My husband had a pain in his chest and was taken to our local hospital where he was told he couldn’t be treated there because the condition was too serious. He was then taken over to Heartlands where he had scans and emergency surgery for a ruptured aorta.
“The care was absolutely brilliant, we were told there was a 10% chance of survival but they were so kind, especially to me and my daughter who was only seven at the time, they were so kind and caring, all round brilliant.”
Nicky and the team took part in the Carver Wolverhampton 10K challenge in September 2018 and raised an incredible £3,000 for the hospital charity!
Sabrina Hussaine, Fundraising Officer for Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “A huge congratulations to the team at Blakemore Food Services for completing the 10K and raising such an amazing amount of money for the Critical Care Unit!
“The money raised will help us fund added extras that go over and above what the NHS can fund for patients, staff and families who visit the department every single day.”
