Charity golf day scores hole in one for cancer ward
Alan Gallimore and Nige Coleman organised a charity golf day that took place at Calderfields Golf Club in Walsall and raised a lot of money for the Cancer ward here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
The two organisers decided to raise money for the ward when one of their close friends, Mike Passmore, was diagnosed with cancer of the throat and has been undergoing his treatment at the QE. Also whilst organising the event, Alan's father, Harry Gallimore, was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
Thankfully, both Mike and Harry were well and able to play in the event thanks to their successful treatments.
Alan said: “As a thank you for the fantastic treatment Mike received from the QE, the money raised would go to the cancer ward at QEHB.
“We would like to thank all of the players who attended and very generously donated money on the day, and to those golf clubs who donated four ball vouchers that helped raise money.”
The golf clubs who donated the vouchers included: MacDonald Portal, The Belfry, Belton Woods, Hawkstone Park, Walsall Golf Club, Kingstone Golf Club, The Chase, Drayton Park, Trentham Park, The Wrekin, The Shropshire, Barlaston Golf Club, Newcastle Golf Club and Aquelate, who all contribute to the amount raised on the day.
Mike is also a member of the PGA and David Wright and the Chairman of the PGA Robert Maxfield kindly donated memorabilia to be auctioned off, going towards the amount that was raised overall on the day.
Overall, the charity golf day raised a huge £2934.56 which will go to the Cancer fund in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity.
Sophie Carroll, Fundraising Officer for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, said: “On behalf of the Charity I want to say a huge well done and thank you to Alan and Nige for organising this event and raising so much money that will make such a difference on the cancer ward here at QEHB. The money will go towards ‘added extras’ for patients and staff on the ward.”
