Christmas lights raise thousands

Every year David Nutt lights his house up with hundreds of Christmas lights to bring joy to his community and to raise money for some very worthy causes.

In 2019, David chose to a cause close to his heart and raise thousands for Heartlands Hospital Charity as he is a patient on Ward 19 at the hospital, the specialist cancer ward.

David invited people to his house on the launch day of his Christmas lights and hundreds of people turned up to see the lights and donate and he raised £3,495 for Ward 19!

Talking to the Sutton Coldfield Observer, David said: “The Christmas lights switch on has grown every year and this year we are supporting Ward 19 at Heartlands Hospital where I had my transplant. The staff were absolutely brilliant right down to the cleaners who came in every day to clean the room.

“I would like to thank all the donations that the local community have given us. We have been supported by most of the local businesses. I would like to thank my wife and sons for their help putting the lights up, I could not have gone through it all on my own.”

This isn’t the first time David has put so many lights on his house though, he has been decorating his house like this for the past 30 years and raising money for different causes for the past 10 years!

Annabelle Davis, Fundraising Assistant for Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “David put on an incredible light show and brought joy to so many people, not just in his local area! Thank you so much for your amazing fundraising, you have raised a huge amount of money that will help benefit more patients just like yourself.”
