Clarissa Greenfield, aged four, started raising money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity when her Granny, Denise, fell ill with two brain aneurysms and was being treated at the hospital.
After being admitted to hospital and receiving treatment for the brain aneurysms, Clarissa noticed that her Granny’s mood had lowered when she found out the devastating news.
To try and improve her mood, Clarissa’s school Church Gresley Infant’s School, took part in writing letters and creating a scrapbook to give to Clarissa’s Granny for her birthday. Her mom, Felicity, shared the idea on Facebook which then attracted hundreds of letters from all over the world, coming from as far as Australia!
After being such a big hit on social media, Felicity contacted local artist Catherine Davis asking if she would write a letter for her. Catherine asked if there was anything else she could do to help and went on to create some designs from drawings of elephants Clarissa had done which represented her and her Granny.
The designs were then put onto cushions and mugs and were sold in Catherine’s online shop and at the Fundraising Hub at QEHB with all profits coming to the Charity.
Mike Hammond, Chief Executive of the Charity, said: “Congratulations to Clarissa for winning the gold award at the Building Healthier Lives Award. Her fundraising efforts have helped provide ‘added extras’ for patients, staff and families across the hospital.”
All of Clarissa’s items have sold out now but there are still other things you can purchase to help patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. You can find more of our items by clicking here.
