Inspirational Velo rider fundraises for Ward 19!

Back in July 2017, Keith Grigg received some devastating news.

Keith’s consultant had explained to him that that he had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system. The consultant then continued to say that he was at stage 4 with a 53% chance of survival and the prognosis was poor.

The lymphoma was in Keith’s stomach, lungs and liver whilst pressing on his kidneys. In his own words, Keith said: “I was in big trouble. With a picc line inserted into my arm and fed down to my chest for four months I had to undergo chemotherapy seven times stronger than normal, such was the aggressive state of the cancer.”

He continued: “The consultants and nurses at Heartlands Hospital Ward 19 who looked after me were quite simply, world class. The hours they put in under extreme pressure never stopped them from smiling or keeping everyone’s spirits up whilst always being the consummate professional.”

Keith has recently been given the thumbs up for completing one year in remission and it’s for this reason he said: “I wanted to give something back to Heartlands Hospital by raising money for a wonderful institution.”
Keith decided to set himself the ultimate challenge of competing in Velo, a 100 mile closed road bike ride alongside his team members Ian Mchugh, Jason Stephenson, Rob Breadon.

Sian Averill, Fundraising Manager at Heartlands Hospital Charity said: “Thank you so much Keith for choosing to support the hospital charity. Your story is truly inspiring and it is a testament to your character that you are fundraising for Ward 19. I certainly will be there cheering you on this weekend!”
This Sunday, Keith will be taking place in Velo Birmingham & Midlands 2019! If you have been inspired by Keith’s story and wish to boost fundraising total, please visit his JustGiving page here
