John Lewis donate to help poorly children at Heartlands Hospital

John Lewis in Grand Central run a Community Matters scheme and this time, entered Heartlands Hospital Charity’s Children’s appeal as one of the contestants.

The scheme, which happens throughout all John Lewis stores, runs every three months and each shop selects three community groups or charities to be entered and be in with the chance of winning money depending on how many votes they received from customers.

The company has £3000 to give away per quarter and customers are given a green token at the till which they can then slot into whichever charity box they choose, increasing the amount of money that charity or community group could get.

Thanks to the customers at John Lewis in Grand Central, Heartlands Hospital Charity received a generous donation of £432 which will go towards the Children’s appeal at the hospital.

The aim of the Children’s appeal is to renovate the children’s areas of the hospital, including the garden, making them brighter and create a safe haven for children to enjoy whilst they are at the hospital.

Shani Lewis, Marketing and Community Liaison Coordinator at John Lewis & Partners, said: “Hundreds of charities are supported every year through Community Matters, our nationwide scheme, and everyone at John Lewis & Partners Birmingham is delighted to be able to support Heartlands Hospital Charity in this way.

“We are very proud of Community Matters, and the difference it makes to lives across the country. Supporting the community in this way is in our DNA and we wish everyone well who will benefit from this donation.”

As well as children’s departments and the garden at Heartlands Hospital, the Charity will also be transforming the family accommodations, turning it into a ‘home from home’ for parents whose children have been admitted to the hospital.

Sabrina Hussaine, Fundraising Officer at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “A huge thank you to John Lewis in Grand Central for choosing the Charity as part of their Community Matters scheme. The money that has been donated will go towards renovating the children’s departments and making them brighter and less stressful for children who visit them every day.”
