Kate Plimmer Foundation supports The Giles’ Trust
The Kate Plimmer Foundation was set up by Kate’s husband Bob after she sadly passed away in 2018 after being treated for breast and brain cancer. The Foundation aims to raise money for the three charities that mean the most to Kate and her family.
Bob Plimmer visited the hospital charity on January 22, what would’ve been Kate’s 71st birthday, to present a cheque for The Giles’ Trust for an incredible £1,250!
The Giles’ Trust was set up by Ashley and Stine Giles after Stine was treated for brain tumours at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The Trust raises money to fund vital brain tumour research within the hospital and has funded two Clinical Research Nurses to help with new trials.
Talking about raising the money, Bob said: “We decided to set up the Foundation to help other people like Kate. We’ve always done charity work and it just seemed like a good idea to say thank you to the people that helped Kate and the family.”
Kate was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002 and then again in 2016, both of these times she received her treatment in Walsall with occasional appointments at QEHB.
In 2016, Kate was also diagnosed with a secondary cancer in her brain where she received chemotherapy, CyberKnife radiotherapy and surgery at QEHB before sadly passing away in 2018.
The Foundation also make regular donations to Walsall Breast Care Support Group where Kate received support after her breast cancer diagnoses and Heart Care who supported Bob after he had a heart attack.
Cathryn Worth, Fundraising Manager for QEHB Charity, said: “Thank you so much to Bob and The Kate Plimmer Foundation for this incredible donation in memory of Kate. The money donated will go towards brain tumour research at the hospital to benefit more patients like Kate.”
