Legacy donation to support research into rare tumours

Alan Price of Four Oaks came to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) to present a cheque to the Charity for an incredible £15,000 that will support research into neuroendocrine tumours.

Alan's daughter Janet was treated at the hospital by Dr Tahir Shah and Suzanne Vickrage (pictured) before sadly passing away in April 2017. Janet left a legacy of £15,000 in her will to go to the neuroendocrine tumour (NET) fund at QEHB that supports research into the tumours and their causes.

Dr Tahir Shah said: "The money that Janet so kindly left to QEHB Charity will go a long way in supporting research into neuroendocrine tumours. These tumours are rare and there is a lot of work to do to ensure that people with NETs are supported as much as possible."

Sophie Carroll, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity said: "It was a pleasure to meet Alan and to learn about his daughter Janet and the legacy that she has left behind. The money that she has given the Charity will be of benefit to patients both at the hospital and further afield long into the future.

"Alan told me of his niece who is studying for a PhD in New Zealand, and his granddaughter who is studying medicine at Cambridge University so he has so many reasons to be proud of his family. On behalf of QEHB Charity I'd like to extend our warmest thanks to Alan and hope that he is proud of the difference that Janet's legacy will make."
