Lodge of Faith and Hope donate to Incubator appeal
In 2019, we launched the Incubator appeal which aimed to bring seven state-of-the-art incubators to Heartlands Hospital and Good Hope Hospital. Now, the appeal has been completed and even more tiny lives are being saved at the hospitals thanks to your incredibly kind donations.
The Provincial Grand Lodge of Warwickshire donated an incredible £20,000 towards the end of 2019, and pledged to raise another £20,000 to fund two of the brand new incubators. The Lodge of Faith and Hope No. 4772, have made an incredibly kind donation of £600 to the Incubator appeal!
Each year, approximately 11,000 babies are born at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals, and over 800 of these babies will require the support of the Neonatal Unit. The unit provides care for newborn babies and offers a welcoming and friendly environment for parents and families in their time of need.
Some babies are born up to four months early and can weigh as little as one pound. These tiny babies require intensive care and support and are cared for around the clock. The hospital charity is proud to support the incredible work of the staff on the units by providing the very best equipment possible.
The incubators will allow much easier access to the baby for the nurses and mothers without causing any heat loss.
They will also be able to cool the baby as some premature babies need specialist therapeutic hypothermia to reduce the likelihood of a brain injury. Babies who were born at the hospitals and need this treatment before, were needing to be transferred to another hospital, but now they can stay in Heartlands or Good Hope and have the treatment there.
Thanks to the Grand Provincial Lodge of Warwickshire and the Lodge of Faith and Hope No. 4772, the Charity has been able to purchase two of the brand new incubators that are going on to treat our tiniest of patients.
Laura Power, Fundraising Manager at Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “A huge thank you goes to the Lodge of Faith and Hope for their incredibly kind donation of £600 towards the Incubator appeal.
“The brand new incubators will improve the care of tiny babies born in the hospitals and will mean babies can be treated faster in the hospitals they are born in.”
