Lovely mother raises money for Liver Foundation at her birthday party
Phyllis Bates celebrated her 90th birthday in July and chose to fundraise for the Liver Foundation at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham at the same time.
Phyllis received a liver transplant 30 years ago when she was 59 and still wants to thank the staff and the hospital today for the life that they have given her.
Her birthday party took place at Bedworth Methodist Church in Coventry where they had a coffee morning and managed to raise a huge £1,200!
Phyllis said: “So many people turned up that I hadn’t seen for years. It is with extreme pleasure that I am sending you a cheque for £1,200 for the Liver Foundation. The response was so wonderful we couldn’t believe it.”
Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, said: “It is so wonderful that Phyllis chose to fundraise for the Charity whilst celebrating her birthday. I am amazed that 30 years after her transplant she still wants to thank the hospital and staff for all of their hard work.
“The money that Phyllis has raised will go straight to the Liver Foundation and will help patients, staff and families and will help provide ‘added extras’ for the ward. A huge thank you goes to Phyllis and all of the people that donated at her birthday party.”
