One MILLION pounds raised on JustGiving: Thank You!

Over the years you, our fabulous fundraisers, have embraced the power of JustGiving – a global online social platform for giving – as a benevolent tool for change, holding hundreds of challenging, quirky and creative fundraising appeals on the website.

Now QEHB Charity is delighted to announce that, with your help, it has raised a staggering £1million through JustGiving.

The fundraising efforts of Shivanand Chavan and Jeyanthan Somasundaram saw donations to QEHB Charity on JustGiving reach £1,000,000.

Shivanand, a 43-year-old Consultant Anaesthetist at the QE, ran the half marathon in October 2015. Jeyanthan, a 40-year-old from Bournville, sponsored Shivanand and donated the one millionth pound to the Charity. He said: “I was initially incredibly surprised to find out I had donated the millionth pound, but was delighted for such a great cause and to have donated to the fundraising page of a former mentor!” Shivanand added: “It is a joy to help the charity in whatever way I can, and I am thrilled to have helped push the fundraising total on JustGiving over the one million pound mark.”

Shivand and JeyanthanThanks to you, over the years we have been able to support children and young people with cancer, transplant patients, military troops, patients with rare diseases and many more. From skydives to bake-offs, marathons to memory giving, you have pulled out all the stops to raise money for patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham… thank you!

Mike Hammond, QEHB Charity Chief Executive, said: “One million pounds is an absolutely incredible amount to have raised, and it would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the general public, patients and staff at the QE.

“We love the wild and whacky ways in which you raise money for patients, we love welcoming you to our QEHB Charity fundraising events, and we are touched by those who wish to give back to the hospital in memory of a loved one or in thanks of their care.

“Without you, the charity would not be able to help the one million patients who visit the hospital every year. Your support is truly invaluable.”
