Over £10,000 raised by Sunrise Snowdon climbers

More than 50 fundraisers took part in the Sunrise Snowdon challenge on the last weekend in April to raise money for the hospital charity and those wards and departments who have made a difference to their lives.

The group, who set off on their climb just after midnight, raised over £10,000 between them!

The hospital charity aims to provide added extras for patients, staff and families across the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital, and fundraisers like this really help us to go over and above what the NHS can fund.

Ann Penson, one of the fundraisers, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed myself even though it was much harder than I thought, but I loved the snow!”

Sian Averill, Fundraising Manager for Heartlands Hospital Charity, was also there on the trek up Mount Snowdon in the dark. She said: “It wasn't what I’d typically be doing on my Saturday night but it was such an amazing experience with a lovely bunch of people. So much money was raised through people’s friends and families donating to all four hospitals.

“A huge well done to everyone who took part, it wasn’t an easy challenge, and thank you for raising so much money that will make a huge difference to patients, staff and families at the hospitals.”

The money raised will go to each fundraisers’ chosen ward or department at the hospital of their choice and will help the hospital charity go over and above what the NHS can fund for patients.

Roisin Mooney, Events Fundraising Assistant at QEHB Charity, said: “A big thank you goes to everyone who took part in the first Sunrise Snowdon of the year! The event was a huge success and the money raised will really benefit patients, staff and families across all of the wards and departments fundraised for!”
