QEHB Theatre Assistant runs half marathon for patients
A brave Brummy is taking part in this year’s Morrisons Great Birmingham Run to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where he works as a Theatre Support Worker.
Jonathan Preston, a 25-year-old from Woodgate Valley, is set to take part in the popular half marathon – his first ever race – which returns to the second city on Sunday 16 October.
He said: “I love sports, especially football, and I do enjoy running although I’ve never attempted a half marathon before!
“It will definitely be a challenge, but I can’t wait for race day.”
Jonathan was inspired to raise money for QEHB Charity after hearing about the variety of support it has provided for patients at QEHB over the years.
He said: “I love working at QEHB. It’s such a fantastic hospital at the top of its game, and I love making a difference to patients, being there throughout their operations and then seeing them pull through – there is no greater feeling.
“I can’t believe how much QEHB Charity does for patients, from funding pizza nights and a specialist teacher for teenagers with cancer, to providing free accommodation for military patients and their families at Fisher House. I wanted to get involved and do my bit to help, because there are so many different ways my money can be used to make a difference.”
Following the half marathon, Jonathan, a self-confessed adrenaline junkie, hopes to take part in a skydive for QEHB Charity, having previously completed water rafting and paintballing, commenting: “watch this space!”
