Rosemarie’s Great BigTea Bake Off

Rosemarie Hendricks is a Housekeeper here at Heartlands Hospital and on Saturday 13 July, she decided to set up her own BigTea party to celebrate the NHS turning the grand age of 71.

Rosemarie decided to set up a JustGiving page after learning that Heartlands Hospital Charity was appealing for people to host their own tea parties to raise money to provide ‘added extras’ for Heartlands Hospital.

In total she raised a fantastic £100, Rosemarie said: “I couldn’t do it on the official date of the NHS’ birthday which was the 5 July, but I really wanted to support the Charity and I love baking so I thought that it was perfect.”

She raised money for Heartlands Hospital Charity’s Children’s appeal. The appeal will see the children's wards and the Children's Outpatients Department renovated, and will also transform the children's garden at the hospital, creating a safe haven for children to enjoy whilst they are in hospital. In addition to this, the hospital charity will be renovating the family accommodation, turning it into a 'home from home' for parents whose children have been admitted to the hospital.

Rosemarie continued: “I’ve just got a special connection with the children’s wards, my son was born here, he’s autistic so had to come to this hospital a lot when he was younger and has had to have a lot of treatment here.”

Rosemarie isn’t stopping with her fundraising for the charity anytime soon, she is also taking part in the Great Birmingham Run in October and will be raising money to support the Children’s Outpatients Department at Heartlands saying “It has a special place in my heart, they have supported my son a lot so I want to give something back.”

Well done Rosemarie! If you would like to take part in an upcoming event to raise money for the charity, why not visit hospitalcharity.org/events to take part?
