Royal Wedding celebrations come to QEHB

The excitement of the Royal Wedding gripped much of the nation over the weekend, and staff and patients at QEHB got into the swing of things, with tea, cake and bunting galore! Parties were held across the hospital, giving patients the chance to watch the special event, whilst enjoying some patriotic goodies.

On Ward 518, the staff organised a tea party for the elderly patients on the ward, complete with red, white and blue balloons, hats and plenty of tea, cake and sandwiches for all. Kelly-Ann Simmonds, Sister on the ward, said: “It was lovely to be able to celebrate the Royal Wedding with the elderly patients on our ward. We all enjoyed a nice day watching the ceremony and eating some tasty treats!”

“Thanks go to QEHB Charity for providing the television cards that allowed us to gather together and watch the wedding; it really helped to lifts spirits on the ward for the day.”

The Ophthalmology Team were also struck down by Royal Wedding fever, hosting a party in the hospital where they watched the Royal couple tie the knot.

Ciara Johnston, Grants Officer at QEHB Charity said: “It was great to see staff at the hospital going ‘over and above’ to give patients a fun experience and really putting lots of effort into the parties that they held. The Charity is delighted to have been able to provide television cards that allowed everyone to watch the ceremony.”
