Runners take to the streets for the inaugural Birmingham International Marathon
The inaugural Birmingham International Marathon took place this weekend alongside the second biggest half marathon in the UK, the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run. Over 100 runners took part for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, Good Hope Hospital Charity, Heartlands Hospital Charity and Solihull Hospital Charity.
Some of those running for the hospital charity were seasoned athletes, whilst others were taking part in their very first marathon or half marathon.Participants ran for a wide variety of causes supported by the Charity including the Young Persons’ Unit and Liver Foundation UK.
Those that ran for the hospital charity were treated to a pre and post-race reception at the wonderful Hotel La Tour, complete with sports massage to ease those aching limbs after the race. The hospital charity team joined with volunteers to encourage the brave participants along the route.
Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising for the hospital charity said “The atmosphere on Sunday was electric; it was amazing to see so many people taking part for the hospital charity.
“Everyone who took part has done incredibly well, not just in completing a long and gruelling run but by raising money that will go towards providing added extras for staff and patients across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
“It was a privilege to see so many ecstatic runners at the reception and I hope they’ve all been inspired to pull on their trainers again in the near future.”
