Sembcorp Energy UK donates huge sum to support patients
Sembcorp Energy UK, an integrated energy business headquartered in Solihull, has donated an incredible £7,500 to University Hospitals Birmingham Charity to support patients and staff across the West Midlands this Christmas.
Each year, University Hospitals Birmingham Charity raises funds to bring some Christmas spirit to its hospitals, providing hampers of delicious festive food and drink for hard-working NHS staff to enjoy on Christmas Day, Christmas trees to brighten up the hospitals, and toys for young patients.
This year, Sembcorp Energy UK decided to support UHB Charity, with an initial donation of £5,000 from the organisation. Sembcorp’s employees were keen to show their support too, and thanks to many employees volunteering their gifts, the organisation was able to donate a further £2,500.
Amy Shaw, Communications Manager, and Gurj Multani, Health, Safety, and Environment Manager, made the short journey to Solihull Hospital from the Sembcorp Engergy UK offices to present the cheque to the Charity.
Andy Koss, Head of Sembcorp Energy UK, said: “We’re delighted to support University Hospitals Birmingham Charity’s Christmas campaign, particularly this year, as a way to show our appreciation and say thank you to everyone working hard at Solihull Hospital and other hospitals within the Trust.
“I hope the hampers and decorations bring some extra cheer to patients and their visitors too, after such a difficult year. I’m also proud that many of the team at Sembcorp Energy UK volunteered to donate their own gift from the company this year so they could contribute to this campaign too. They’ve been incredibly generous and it’s allowed us to increase our donation by 50%! Thank you to everyone.”

Samantha Howell, Fundraising Manager at University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, said: “On behalf of the 22,000 members of staff across our Trust, and all of our patients, I would like to thank everyone at Sembcorp Energy UK for their generosity this Christmas.
“Being in hospital over Christmas is never easy, but this year our patients will not be able to have a visit from their loved ones. This has made us more committed than ever to do all that we can to support our patients this Christmas. This generous donation from Sembcorp Energy UK will help us to do so much this Christmas, spreading some Christmas magic to our patients and staff across the hospitals.”
