Siblings raise money in memory of their mother

Kevin Boyce and his family took part in a craft fair in November of last year to help raise money for Ward 23 – the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit at Heartlands Hospital – to thank the staff for the care of their mother before she sadly passed away.

The team, Kevin, Jeannette Thornton, Carolyn Nestor and Jacqueline Newman, started creating their handmade items in July 2019 to sell at craft fairs; the items included Christmas decorations, pine cone trees, wreaths, tote bags and light up bottles.

Their fundraising ended in December with a Christmas party in memory of their mother, Elsie Boyce. Their friends, family and lots of local businesses got involved with the party and donated raffle and tombola prizes to help raise money for the Stroke Unit!

The Christmas Gala Night was held at Kingshurst and District Labour Club in December which ended their fundraising for the year. All of their friends and family got together to celebrate Elsie’s life and to raise money for the hospital charity.

Altogether, the family raised an incredible £948.33 for the Stroke Unit at Heartlands Hospital through their fundraising events!

Annabelle Davis, Fundraising Assistant for Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “Thank you so much to Kevin, Jeanette, Carolyn and Jacqueline for raising such an amazing amount of money for the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit at the hospital in memory of your mother.

“The money raised will go towards funding added extras that go ‘over and above’ what the NHS can fund for patients, families and staff on the unit.”
