Singing star brightens up the day with some classics from a by-gone era
Singer Ruby Ann treated staff, patients and their families to a musical treat yesterday in the atrium of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Singing a range of classics from the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s, Ruby Ann performed for an hour and attracted people from all over the hospital to come and watch.
Ruby Ann had a particular reason for wanting to come and sing at QEHB. Back in 2012 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and has since had extensive surgery including breast reconstruction.
Ruby Ann said: “I have received nothing but the best care over my time being treated at QEHB. All of the staff who have been involved in my treatment have been incredible and I wanted to give a little something back.
“I have always loved singing, I joined my first church choir at the age of ten and I haven’t looked back since. I love singing older songs, especially the songs from the period around the Second World War. Vera Lynn turned 100 this year and I hope I’ve channelled some of her spirit today.”
Cathryn Worth, Fundraising Manager at QEHB Charity said: “I am incredibly grateful to Ruby Ann for coming along to sing today in the atrium. It’s amazing to see patients come back to the hospital to provide a lovely experience for patients and staff.
“The Charity is raising money to bring cutting edge breast cancer equipment to QEHB, and to provide added extras for breast cancer patients. Having people like Ruby Ann come back to the hospital and put on such a wonderful show helps to raise awareness of the Charity’s campaign.”
