Staff Bike Ride Marks Next Step in £10,000 Fundraising Challenge for 10th Anniversary of the Centre for Rare Diseases

Hospital staff at the Centre for Rare Diseases at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham are keeping the wheels turning on their year-long fundraising challenge, as they take on a static bike ride inside the hospital’s atrium on Friday, 10 October.
The event is part of the Centre’s ‘10 for 10’ Appeal, which aims to raise £10,000 to provide sensory items and purchase other equipment that will support the needs of those who come to the Centre for Rare Diseases, making their visit calmer and a more enjoyable experience.
There are over 7,000 rare diseases classified in the UK. Of these, 80% have a genetic basis, and surprisingly, one in 17 of us will be affected by a rare disease at some point in our lives.
The Centre for Rare Diseases, funded and supported by Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, provides specialist care for people with rare conditions and is dedicated to pioneering new treatments and techniques. The Centre also serves as a place for those affected by rare diseases to meet and interact with others who share similar experiences.
Deborah Wilks, Ward Sister, said, “We’re delighted to be celebrating our anniversary and 10 years of supporting our patients here at the Centre for Rare Diseases. This fundraising challenge is very exciting and something all the staff are getting behind! Here’s to £10,000!”
The bike ride follows the appeal’s launch back in July as part of the NHS Big Tea, with a range of activities planned throughout the year to reach their target, and you can help support them through their JustGiving page by clicking here.
