Sweet success for Breast Cancer bake stall

On Tuesday 15 October 2019 patients, relatives and staff at Heartlands Hospital ‘ate it pink’ to help raise money to fight Breast Cancer. The bake sale was organised by Emily Bielby, who works at the hospital. She said: “The Eat It Pink bake sale went really well; I set a target for £250 and made £400 so I’m really pleased.

“Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, so it’s touching to see so many people supporting it and I was completely overwhelmed by people’s generosity. I had donations from Tesco (Jo James, Sutton Coldfield) who kindly gave me a £20 Gift Card, Chitty’s Cupcakes who donated 25 pink cupcakes and Pat Lawless (Lawless Cakes) made some pink tray bakes of caramel shortbread and Oreo brownies which seemed very popular with buyers.”

Emily’s colleagues in the Respiratory Physiology department were a huge help to her leading up to the event and continued to show their support on the day. “I can only continue thanking my colleagues for helping me and supporting me as much as they did. A lot of my colleagues donated money and others bought a lot of pink items to sell, they also helped with preparation and set up on the day so team work helped make the event as successful as it was. The money raised will go to Heartlands Hospital Charity Cancer Appeal Fund. It’s enough to help make a difference and that’s all that matters to me, I imagine my mum would be very proud,” says Emily.

“I would also like to thank all three Volunteers from Heartlands Hospital Charity for their continued support and enthusiasm, they did a great job and with their help we sold everything we had”. It was a very successful day and I’ve already got a couple of fundraising ideas for next October,” she adds, enthusing at the prospect.

Sabrina Hussaine, Fundraising Officer at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “Well done to Emily for organising such an excellent bake sale! It was incredibly popular with all of the visitors, patients and staff who were at the hospital on the day. The money that she has raised will help Heartlands Hospital Charity to provide the best care possible for breast cancer patients at the hospital.”
