Victorious boxer brings funds to Good Hope
Amateur boxer Jimmy Bates of Birmingham presented a cheque to Good Hope Hospital Charity for an indredible £3,044 which will help support newborn babies at the Special Care Baby Unit at the hospital.
Jimmy was born 35 years ago at Good Hope Hospital, arriving nine weeks early, and had to spend time being cared for at the Special Care Baby Unit. Now, Jimmy has returned to the unit with a cheque following his success in an amateur boxing event.
Jimmy fought in the Stictly Boxing VIII event at Moseley Rugby Club and, thanks to the support of his family, friends and colleagues at Access Hardward Ltd, has raised over £3,000.
Jimmy said: "It was great to be able to raise so much money to support a cause that is really close to my heart. I trained hard for the boxing match and it paid off as I won in around 60 seconds! Thanks to all those who have supported me and I know that the money will go to good use."
Laura Power, Fundraising Manager at Good Hope Hospital Charity said: "I'm delighted that Jimmy raised such an incredible amount of money that will allow the Charity to continue to go over and above for newborn babies at Good Hope Hospital.
"It's really special that, after all these years, Jimmy has returned to give something back to the unit that cared for him when he was so small. Well done Jimmy!"
