17-year-old Dan Lightfoot raises a phenomenal £1,093.55 for QEHB Charity!

Dan raised this substantial amount of money for the QEHB Skin Lymphoma Fund to give back to the department that helped to save his father’s life. In 2012, his father, Rob Lightfoot aged just 41 at the time was diagnosed with Skin Lymphoma, a rare form of cancer.

Dan said: “I wasn’t aware of the condition and feared the worst possible outcome. Thanks to the care and support given to him by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, after three years of battling he is now in full remission. I don’t know how I would have managed to cope if he hadn’t made it and can’t thank the hospital enough for the amazing work they have done for him and continue to do for others every day!”

Despite his hectic schedule of studying for his upcoming A-level exams, Dan decided to take on the Great Birmingham 10K on the 26 May which he completed in less than 40 minutes! Friends, family, colleagues and students of Rob’s at Haybridge High School all pitched in to support Dan’s 10K.
Reflecting on his time at QEHB, Rob said: “The hospital is phenomenal, I am incredibly blessed to be in this area and to have access to this kind of treatment.”

Roisin Mooney, Events Fundraising Assistant for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity said: “It was an absolute pleasure to meet Dan and Rob! On behalf of the hospital charity, I would like to say a huge thank you for raising such an enormous amount for the Skin Lymphoma Fund. The money that you have raised will be able to provide the very best treatment for our cancer patients.”
