Attack victim raises thousands for hospital that saved him

A football fan who was left fighting for his life in a coma following an attack after an end-of-season Wolves match has raised thousands for QEHB Charity, to give back to the hospital that saved his life.

Nic Cruwys, a father-of-two from Hemel Hempstead, was viciously attacked as he walked to Wolverhampton Railway Station following last season’s Watford-Wolves football match. Following the attack, he suffered a serious head injury and spent four months at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Now, with help from wife Jodie Cruwys, he has raised vital funds for QEHB Charity and brain injury charity Headway Herts. The pair hosted a special fundraising evening which took place at Nic’s local football club on Sunday 31 July, and included a raffle, auction and various entertainments throughout the night.

Nic said: “Jodie and I are extremely grateful to the fantastic staff at QEHB who helped support us through what was a truly horrendous ordeal.

“We are delighted to be able to donate this money to QEHB Charity. We hope this small gesture of thanks for the fantastic nurses, doctors and specialists who cared for me and who we believe saved my life, goes on to help other patients who find themselves unlucky enough to be in hospital.”

Mike Hammond, Chief Executive at QEHB Charity, said: “We are delighted to see that Nic has made a fantastic recovery, and are incredibly grateful for his and Jodie’s fantastic fundraising. Their generous donation will help us continue to fund added extras for patients at QEHB, over and above what the NHS can pay for.”
