Cycling challenge brings in money for liver patients at QEHB
A team of staff from the catering company Five Rivers recently took on a cycling challenge to raise money to support liver patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Shamim Huseinmiya, Director at Five Rivers Group, made a trip to the hospital to present the cheque for £500 to Cathryn Worth, Fundraising Manager at QEHB Charity.
The team from Five Rivers were inspired to take on the cycling challenge after Shamim’s mother, Salma, received a liver transplant at the hospital. The team cycled 200 miles in a ‘virtual’ challenge on a static bike, taking it in turns to pedal for glory. The team managed to complete the distance in just over four hours, which was quicker than they had expected!
Speaking of the challenge, Shamim said: “It was great to see so many people from Five Rivers Outdoor help out to complete the challenge. I was delighted that we managed to raise such a fantastic amount of money to support a cause that is very close to my heart.”
Cathryn Worth, Fundraising Manager at QEHB Charity said: “The Charity’s thanks go to Shamim and the team from Five Rivers Outdoor for their brilliant fundraising efforts. The money that they have raised will allow the Charity to provide ‘added extras’ for liver patients here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
“The liver unit is the largest of its kind in Europe, with ground breaking research taking place right here in Birmingham which is supported by the generous donations that people make to the Charity.”
