Escape Live Birmingham proves no match for YPU patients!
Patients and staff from the Teenage Cancer Trust Young Person’s Unit (TCT YPU) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEHB) successfully tackled a popular escape experience in Birmingham.
YPU visited Escape Live Birmingham, which is based in Henrietta Street in the Jewellery Quarter, and all escaped within the one hour time limit.
The players were split into two teams and tackled the challenges of The Lab and Time Machine.
YPU is a dedicated ward for young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are being treated for cancer.
Lee Farrelly Jamieson, from Birmingham, was one of the successful escapees.
He said: “I thought the challenge was good. I wasn’t really sure what I was doing at the start, but you start to notice things and then parts start to click.
“I didn’t know what to expect to be honest, I’d never done anything like this before. I thought it might have been simpler, but it was a real challenge.
“I’ll definitely be back again, I wanted to try out the other rooms straight away.”
QEHB Charity supports YPU with educational, social and leisure activities – including the visit to Escape Live Birmingham.
Kathy Cook, TCT Youth Support Coordinator said: “It’s great because they get to do something a little different from the norm. Events like this really bring them all together. This is the second year that we have run it, and it’s always well received!”
Escape Live Birmingham has four escape experiences, including Time Machine and The Lab.
The Lab sees players enter a scientific research facility where there has been a toxic gas leak and players are tasked with making the facility safe to save the world. Time Machine sees teams lost in a time travel loop hole, that takes them to different moments through history and seek clues to find their way to the present day.
Will Amott, Venue Manager at Escape Live Birmingham, said: “It was great to welcome everyone down from TCT YPU and I hope they enjoyed their morning with us.
“Both teams did exceptionally well to escape in time and we were very impressed by their clue cracking skills.
“We look forward to welcoming them back in the future to try and beat the other experiences we have here at Escape Live Birmingham.”
