Family raise money for Fisher House at WW1 event

Jack and Heather Keylock spent the day raising money for Fisher House at a World War I event in Hay-on-Wye in Hereford.

Fisher House is the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s military home away from home. The house offers a supportive environment for the patients who are receiving treatment at the hospital and for their families to stay nearby with them.

The family have previously raised money for The Giles’ Trust as Jack has been treated for a brain tumour here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, but they decided to raise money for Fisher House this time in memory of one of their good friends Will Plant.

After meeting Will and his family when they were both staying in the house, the two families became good friends whilst they were there. Sadly, Will, of the third Battalion, Parachute Regiment, passed away in March and Jack and Heather decided they wanted to raise money in memory of Will and for the people who will be staying in Fisher House in the future like them.

In total, Heather and Jack raised £422.13 at the event by setting up a stand and selling wristbands and pin badges. Jack also spent the whole day before baking cupcakes to sell, which he sold out of!

For Jack’s 21st birthday in July he was gifted a little puppy named Garth who they dressed up especially for the event and attracted a lot of attention alongside a war-time American jeep by their stand.

The money Jack and Heather raised at the event will go towards maintaining Fisher House and making sure that everyone who stays there, present and future, has a comforting stay and can be close to their family whilst they are receiving treatment.
