Fiancée runs half marathon for Cardiology Department

Emma Walker’s fiancé Eric has been having treatment in the Cardiology Department for the past six years here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and she decided she wanted to raise some money to support the department that changed their lives.

After an appointment where Emma, Eric and consultants talked about the opportunity of an operation for Eric, Emma said she realised how much they rely on this department for Eric and wanted to raise money for them to help benefit other patients.

On 20 May 2018, Emma ran the Rock and Roll half marathon in Liverpool to raise money for the Cardiology Department who has changed their lives.

Emma said: “At eight miles I remembered what I am running for and felt a great sense of achievement for what I had done so far.

“I am eternally grateful for the ongoing support the Cardiology Department give to Eric and myself.”

After completing the race in two hours and 55 minutes, Emma managed to raise a huge £1,056 for the Cardiology Department which will go towards ‘added extras’ for patients and staff.

Rachel Learmonth, Senior Fundraiser for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, said: “I am so happy for Emma and her fantastic achievement. She has done so well in starting from the bottom and managing to complete a half marathon! The money she has raised will go straight to the Cardiology Department and help them fund ‘added extras’ that they need in the department.”

Emma is also set to run another half marathon in September at Lake Vyrnwy where she wants to continue raising money for the department that saved her partners life.
