Fourth BONE-Shaker MARROW-thon revs up funds for blood cancer charities

Over 100 bikers rolled into Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham on Sunday 21 May for the fourth annual BONE-shaker MARROW-thon Ride.

The ride, which begins at QEHB and ends in Burton-on-Trent was once again organised by Stephen Sinfield whose wife, Katherine was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2013 and received treatment at QEHB throughout her illness.

Thanks to the fantastic efforts of all the bikers, the marrow-thon has so far raised £850 which will be split equally between QEHB, Anthony Nolan and Cure Leukaemia, as well as raising awareness of the disease.

Katherine said: “We were very fortunate on the day that the weather was kind to us, the event takes a lot of planning and organisation but once again it was a huge success.

“Since the first ride in 2014 we are so happy to see that the event has grown and grown and we are grateful to the biking community for their support, many of them travel from afar and stay in hotels just to come to the ride, which is really heart-warming.”

"I'm living proof of where the money goes. Without the joint efforts of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham coupled with Cure Leukaemia and Anthony Nolan, I would have died in 2013."

Mike Hammond, Chief Executive of QEHB Charity said: “Thank you to all who came along to this event, we are really honoured to be able to host the bikers at QEHB. Thank you as well to Stephen and Katherine Sinfield for organising the ride, it is humbling to see how individuals who have faced such adversity use that energy to help other facing a similar situation.”
