Grateful sister to climb three peaks for three charities
Julie Johns has decided to take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks climbing challenge following the treatment her brother received earlier this year.
On 18 November 2015 Julie’s brother, Robert, began to experience severe health issues with his heart, and was eventually informed that he would need a heart transplant.
His condition rapidly declined, leading to being admitted to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham on 13 February 2016, where he was placed immediately at the top of the heart transplant list.
Just four weeks later, a suitable heart was found for Robert. Following a successful transplant, Robert was out of his bed within just a few days and at home within three weeks.
Julie said: “We believe that our family has been the recipients of nothing less than a miracle; my brother’s attitude has been inspirational throughout and he has kept us all going with his humour.
“He has received absolutely first class quality care from all the staff at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham from Dr. Lim, the transplant team and all the nurses and staff."
Julie has decided to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks on 9 July in order to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, hArt (an Art charity) and the QEHB Charity; it is her way of saying 'thank you' to all those who helped to save the life of her brother.
Sian Averill, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Julie and Robert for choosing to support QEHB Charity. On behalf of the Charity, I want to wish Julie the best of luck for the Yorkshire Three Peaks.”
