Housekeeper brings fun and games to urology patients
A housekeeper at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) has been sprinkling magic around ward 624, with support from QEHB Charity’s Sprinkle Some Magic grant scheme.
Carolyn Tipton, who has worked at the hospital for over nine years, asked QEHB Charity for a grant to purchase a range of games to support urology patients.
The games included Connect 4, Battleship, Jenga, Frustration, Chess, Dominoes, Draughts and Snakes and Ladders.
Carolyn said: “The grant from QEHB Charity has made a huge difference to patients and their families here on the ward. Having games to play really helps to pass the time and alleviate boredom, and also helps to keep patients active and engaged. Jenga is brilliant for exercising hand-eye coordination, and Connect 4 is really colourful which is great for our elderly patients with dementia.”
Tina Hales, Grants Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “We were delighted to receive Carolyn’s request and are pleased to hear that the games are really popular and are of such great benefit to patients.
“Sprinkle Some Magic is an ongoing campaign at QEHB Charity, which empowers staff at QEHB to request small grants to help improve their ward or area with ‘added extras’ that are over and above what the NHS can provide.
“We are thrilled to be able to spend generous donations in this way and would like to encourage as many staff members as possible to apply to the Charity for a grant to help benefit their patients.”
