Ruth Furber, a sixteen-year-old student at The King’s School, Worcester, has decided to raise money for QEHB Charity in a school event.

The King’s School has an operating ‘house system’; Ruth is a member of ‘Choir House’. On Friday, 4th March, each year group (years seven to thirteen) within ‘Choir House’ will attempt to cover the daunting total return distance of twenty six miles between their school and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham through either running, cycling or rowing as far as possible within a given time.

Each participant will be sponsored for their individual efforts, and the money raised will be accumulated at the end to discover the grand total.

Ruth, the school Charity Committee’s L6th (year twelve) representative, has set a fundraising target of £1,000.

The A-Level student, currently studying Art, Drama, Music, and English Literature, decided to raise money for QEHB Charity due to the treatment her mother received at the hospital:

“She received great care from the hospital during her operation, and continues to be given support and treatment from the excellent staff; she has recently undergone a second operation at the hospital, causing it to have become a large part of our lives.

I did consider donating the total amount raised to a specific fund or ward within the charity, however I decided upon giving the money to the charity as a whole, as many different departments helped my mother.

My school house hopes that the donation will help many other patients and their families going through difficult times in their lives.”

Laura Power, Senior Fundraising at QEHB Charity, said: “Pupils at secondary schools are always incredible busy, and organising fundraising events such as this shows their magnanimous natures. On behalf of QEHB Charity, I want to thank Ruth and all of the pupils taking part in the event at The King’s School, Worcester, for their efforts thus far, and to wish them the very best of luck!”
