QEHB staff member pledges to support the Liver Unit through her amazing talent

Loraine Brown, PA to several consultants over the past 17 years at University Hospitals Birmingham Liver Unit has pledged to raise money for liver research and also increase the awareness of how important fundraising is to liver patients.

Painting has been a long-term hobby of Loraine’s and it has now turned into a way of fundraising for her chosen charity, QEHB Charity. For many years Loraine has created fine art drawings using an array of media however in recent years she has moved on to acrylic abstract paintings that use different fluid art techniques as well as incorporating fine art detail. Loraine is set to auction off most of the stunning acrylic paintings that she has accumulated for her event.

When asked about her art, Loraine said: “My inspiration comes from the actual process really. I start with an idea for the colour scheme and desired shapes, mostly taken from the natural world, like the sea, space, the wings or skin of an insect, feathers, waves, blood, rocks, cells and so on. It really can be like opening a Christmas present every time I create one of these pictures because they always surprise me. It’s a constant learning curve, so the more knowledge I gain, the more predictable it becomes. It’s an expensive hobby, but well worth it when it goes to plan.”

Loraine will be holding a ‘silent auction’ on 5 October 10:00am to 2:00pm a silent auction means that you can discuss with the artist how much you would like to bid, along with your name and number and she will let you know if you are the highest bidder by the end of the auction day. There is a minimum price for each painting, £10 for the small paintings and £30 for the larger ones. All profits made will go towards the Liver Unit at QEHB.

Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising for QEHB Charity said: “What a wonderful talent Loraine has, thank you so much for choosing to donate to QEHB Charity. The paintings look beautiful and I wish you all the best for your launch”
