Ray Kirton and Southam RAF Cadets prepare for sixth annual Scubaaction for Fisher House
Ray Kirton has been fundraising for the past six years in aid of Fisher House, the home-away-from-home for military patients and their families at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Each year, Ray organises an event with the Southam RAF Cadets where they take on a sponsored swimming challenge. Last year’s event saw the Cadets raise an incredible £1,500 for Fisher House by taking on a swim which totalled 40 miles, the distance from the leisure centre in Southam, where the challenge took place, and Fisher House.
This year, the Cadets are taking on the same challenge, and are hoping to again raise a great sum for the home away from home for military patients and their families.
This year’s event takes place on Sunday 17 November from 1:30pm until 5:00pm at Southam Leisure Centre.
Ray said: “We are all really looking forward to this event, and I’m delighted that our guest of honour on the day will be Patient Advocate Dave Watson, who I’ve had the pleasure of working with many times.
“Dave works at Fisher House and has given inspirational talks to the Cadets and has shown them all the incredible facilities at Fisher House. This has helped to inspire the Cadets to raise as much money as they can to support this important cause.”
Dave said: “Good luck to Ray and all of the amazing Cadets from the 2028 Southam Squadron for their upcoming fundraising event. Over the years their support for Fisher House has been absolutely amazing. Without fundraisers like Ray and the Cadets it would not be possible for us to keep providing the very best care and support for our families at Fisher House.”
