Young fundraiser is determined to make a difference

Twelve year old Ryan Raeiszadeh has been very busy raising money to support research into Alzheimer's at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), and promoting awareness of the condition to his school friends. Ryan has so far raised over £80 and hopes to raise even more!

Ryan has been raising money at a local cafe by asking people to challenge him to a game of chess, with money going to support patients with Alzheimer's at QEHB. Ryan decided that playing chess was a great way to raise awareness as the game is linked to keeping the mind and brain healthy and active.

As well as his chess exploits, Ryan has been giving talks at his school on Alzheimer's as he is passionate about helping others and one day finding a cure. Ryan said: "I have seen what Alzheimer's can do to someone and the effect it has on family members.

"One day I want to become a Neurologist and find a cure or a treatment to prevent this terrible disease. It means a lot to me to be able to contribute to the research into dementia and Alzheimer's. I would like to invite everyone to challenge me in a game of chess to help raise money."

Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, Sophie Carroll said: "Ryan is an inspirational young man. He's incredibly driven, clever and determined. The money he has raised will support patients at the hospital and I have no doubt that he has a wonderful future ahead of him.

"I really look forward to hearing more about his fundraising and campaign to promote awareness. Well done Ryan!"
